Ireland’s national survey of students has been paused – now what?

Ireland's national survey logo

Ireland’s StudentSurvey.ie, formerly known as the Irish Survey of Student Engagement (ISSE), has been paused for 2024, leaving institutions in Ireland without a key route to hearing and acting on the student voice.

Carried out on a national level each year, the StudentSurvey.ie aims to ensure that students across the country have an opportunity to record and comment on their experiences of teaching and learning in Irish higher education. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students are surveyed, with results analysed, disseminated and acted upon.

With the survey paused for this year, what can HE institutions in Ireland do as an alternative?

Using evasys to run institutionally managed surveys

Ireland’s higher education sector will wish to capture, listen to and act on the student voice. Without the process and data gathering facilitated by the annual StudentSurvey.ie, universities will have a greater need to run their own surveys to ensure that the student voice is heard. One option that would make this process easier is the implementation of a sector-specific survey and evaluation tool.

The evasys student survey and insights solution is a market-leading technology in the UK and Ireland, working with more than 60 HE institutions, including four in Ireland.

Our customers utilise our technology to design, manage, issue and analyse a range of surveys.

The solution is used to run institution-level surveys such as StudentSurvey.ie, and is also beneficial across a whole range of HE surveys at programme and module level, alongside pre-arrival, first year, Graduate Outcomes, staff surveys, and even elections.

The evasys solution can go live quickly, and brings the added benefit of tightening up the survey and evaluation process with a range of useful features. The Closing the Loop function allows lecturers to provide reflections on feedback directly back to students, letting them know that their voices are heard.

The evasys free-text AI tool allows for sentiment analysis on written comments to provide an over-arching view on how students are feeling. Filters can also be applied to text analytics to enable redaction of any inappropriate language. Additionally, evasys offers outstanding reporting capabilities that can be aggregated across modules, programmes, schools, academic years and the whole institution.

Easy to integrate, evasys can be linked to LTIs, VLEs, student portals, student record systems and more. These integrations, in addition to the in-system automated survey reminders, allow for an increase in survey response rates with links and reminders visible across multiple platforms.

The evasys extra mile

The team at evasys are well known for going the extra mile for clients; helping to work out the various phases of implementation, sharing knowledge on survey best-practice and assisting with survey questions and design.

Our team have been working in and around higher education in the UK and Ireland for decades, with our senior management team all having held a range of management and academic roles within HE institutions totalling 60+ years. Couple this with the fact that evasys only works within the education sector and it is easy to understand why our customers are so satisfied with the support from our UK team.
