What if the problem with student feedback isn’t the feedback, but the gaps around it?
Most institutions put considerable time, thought and effort into listening to their students. Surveys go out, data comes in, teams analyse the findings and people work hard to turn insight into improvement.
But good intentions and good systems are not always the same thing. Governance, staff engagement and student engagement can all too easily operate on separate tracks and it’s in the gaps between them that valuable insight, action and impact can get lost.
Connecting the student feedback ecosystem
Framed around a diagnostic framework developed by evasys and Wonkhe, Mind the Gap will explore three essential and interconnected pillars of an effective student feedback ecosystem; governance, staff engagement and student engagement.
Opening with a keynote from Debbie McVitty, Editor at Wonkhe, the day will combine sector perspective with practitioner-led sessions exploring how institutions can make each part of the ecosystem stronger and, crucially, connect them more effectively.
A closing keynote will draw the strategic threads together through the lens of TEF and the student voice, considering what an intentional approach to feedback means for institutions now and in the future.
Three pillars. One connected approach.
What are we asking students, when are we asking it – and why?
Explore how institutions can build confidence in their survey systems, establish clear principles for good practice and ensure feedback activity is aligned with wider institutional priorities and student success.
How do we move from staff having access to student feedback to actively using it?
We’ll look at the role of leadership, the barriers that prevent insight becoming action and the cultural conditions that enable staff to engage meaningfully with feedback and deploy it to improve the student experience.
What does meaningful closing the loop really look like?
Explore how institutions can build genuine partnership with students and Students’ Unions, making communication and action an integral part of the feedback ecosystem rather than something bolted on at the end.

Please complete the form and select whether you would like to attend in person at King’s College London or online via Microsoft Teams.
Mind the gaps. Connect the system. Make student feedback count.
Join us on 4 November to explore what a more intentional, connected and effective student feedback ecosystem could look like for your institution.
